Wax Chattels Reveal New Album 'Clot'
Turbulent times call for intense sounds and Tāmaki Makaurau's Wax Chattels aren't holding anything back on their furiously focused second studio album Clot. The famously guitarless trio of Amanda Cheng, Peter Ruddell (Sulfate) and Tom Leggett conjure the subterranean aura of their hometown's dank underbelly over Clot's eleven cacophonous tracks, painting a viscerally textured portrait of what makes them such a formidable live unit — while encouraging listeners to chew over such substantial themes as "Cross-Strait relations and self-determination" and "the first generation immigrant experience" in Aotearoa, with some songs sung in Cheng's native language Taiwanese Hokkien as well as English. Delivering on the promise of their Taite Music Prize nominated 2018 self-titled debut, there's more creativity lurking around every corner of Clot than many groups attain during entire careers (plus is that a nod to Voom's 'Relax' on opener 'Glue'?). Dive into the stream below and experience a newly unearthed live video of Wax Chattels tearing through 'Efficiency'...
'Clot' is out now via Captured Tracks & Flying Nun Records.
