Listen To Ida Lune's Self-Titled Debut Album
Anna Wooles, Rose Blake and Deanne Krieg make up the charming Whanganui-a-Tara trio Ida Lune. This week, the avant-folk force have treated our eager ears to their self-titled debut album of ceaseless harmonies and clever lyrical play. The vocal talent in Ida Lune is almost greedy, from the jaw-dropping velvety lows in 'Jeremy', to the organic multiplex effect of three voices in 'River Song'. I don't want to reduce Ida Lune to a Fleet Foxes comparison, because there's something so much more personal to the songs these women write. There is a similar sense of melancholy and sweeping, gentle harmonies, yet Ida Lune have a massive warmth to their sound, and invite you to connect to their lyrics. I feel very smug to have seen the trio perform live in an overgrown garden a couple of years ago, and hopefully the new album will be followed up with a launch tour. In the meantime, dip into Ida Lune's debut here...
Ida Lune's breathtaking video for 'Apart', featuring what one might interpret as a touching wake for an orchid...
