Nationwide Tour Announced For Pōneke's Macho Macho

Annabel Kean / Thursday 14th January, 2021 10:55AM

Pōneke bedroom-pop foursome, and presumably part-time muscle men, Macho Macho have been oiling up their tunes and toning their vocal cords in preparation for a glistening summer tour. The up-and-comers dipped their toes into releasing music in early 2020, with a couple of demos and a couple of not-demos, sounding something along the lines of a Brit-pop group that moved to Dunedin and got into lo-fi psych music. Along with the handful of promising singles on their Bandcamp and a fine resume of shows throughout the last two years, the Macho boys entice gig-goers further with some top banana support acts on the bill. Catch them this O-Week season in Tāmaki with Cindy and Chewy Gum, their hometown with Miss Cressida and Wiri Donna, Ōtautahi with Sneaky Caribbean Monk Seals (not to be confused with the extinct species of seal), and Koizilla and Juno Is at the Dunedin grand finale. Dates, tickets, and links below...

Press release:

Macho Macho are on tour this February! Featuring numerous new and exciting acts across Wellington, Auckland, Christchurch and Dunedin, these shows are not to be missed!

CHEWY GUM are another rising band in the up-and-coming Auckland music scene. Expect crunchy riffs with a healthy dose of pop loveliness. See both acts perform alongside MACHO MACHO live at Whammy! on the 12th of February.

MISS CRESSIDA are seasoned Wellington indie rock dwellers and if their recent shows are

any indication, they are looking to be back for 2021 with an exciting new live show. With new tunes added to fan favourites, their set is sure to be a treat. Throughout the last year, WIRI DONNA has seen a fortuitous rise in Wellington music. With an incredible sing-along live show and dreamy guitar tones, both support acts for this show are unmissable. Grab a ticket today and catch them this O-week alongside MACHO MACHO on the 19th of February at San Fran.

The SNEAKY CARIBBEAN MONK SEALS are a young Ōtautahi band drawing influence from early 70s rock royalty. With a high energy live set and several impressive gigs behind them, the group is sure to shock and awe. See them play this O-week alongside MACHO MACHO on the 25th of February at Darkroom.

KOIZILLA are Ōtepoti's favourite modern psychedelic rock troupe. Prepare to be ensnared by their awe-inspiring live show. JUNO IS - another rising Dunedin act, has had a huge year. Her tasteful indie-pop compositions are sure to provide a great show this O-week alongside MACHO MACHO on the 26th of February at Dive.
