Beastwars Announce 10th Anniversary Tour + Vinyl Reissue Of Debut Album
Beastwars are toasting the tenth anniversary of their self-titled debut album with a nationwide tour this coming May, joined for all dates by psych duo Earth Tongue. The Pōneke team of Matt Hyde, Nathan Hickey, James Woods and Clayton Anderson's earth-shaking 2011 record was recognised as an instant classic in the hallowed halls of Aotearoa heavy metal upon launching, earning a shortlist nomination for the Taite Music Prize, a Tui award for Nick Keller's infernal album artwork, and legions of riff-worshipping fans for such anthems as 'Damn the Sky', 'Lake of Fire' and 'Iron Wolf'. Long out of print and now changing hands amongst collectors for absurd sums, Beastwars' debut album will soon be reissued and available on vinyl for the first time in seven years, in freshly remastered form. Going the extra mile, they'll also be making available on limited edition 7" vinyl newly recorded versions of two songs that did not originally fit on the album, the first track of which 'When I'm King' can be experienced below.
Renowned for their thunderous and formidable live shows, as documented on their 2020 Live At San Fran album and concert film, Beastwars are set to headline the largest venues of their career — we advise you stock up on ear plugs and grab tickets while you can...

Press release:
The brutal and barbaric debut long player firmly established Beastwars' reputation as one of New Zealand’s most powerful and uncompromising groups. Alongside critical acclaim both here at home and internationally it also earned them nominations at the Taite awards and the NZ Music Awards for Best Rock Album winning Best Album Artwork for the spectacular mind melting imagery by Nick Keller.
Coinciding with the tour and to mark the anniversary, Destroy Records in association with Universal Music will repress the long out of print album on vinyl for the first time in 7 years. With collectors paying up to $300 for copies of the rare original pressing this will be welcome news to those who missed out the first time. The freshly remastered vinyl finds the band’s heavy apocalyptic howls eerily soundtracking the events of today just as well as they did a decade ago. And as a special bonus, 2 songs that did not fit onto the album have been re-recorded at Roundhead Studios and The Surgery and will be released on a limited run 7" vinyl single. The first song When I'm King can be heard here.
Beginning the tour in Mt. Maunganui before heading to the Powerstation in Auckland, Beastwars will be making their first visit back to Christchurch and Dunedin since their 4th album "IV" hit #1 in the album charts in 2019. The Wakatu Hotel in Nelson will host them the night before they take on The Hunter Lounge in Wellington almost 10 years to the night that they supported Kyuss on the same stage.
Wellington heavy psych duo Earth Tongue will open all shows with their explosive fuzz-laden stoner pop. Prepare yourself for mind-frying riff action. Both Earth Tongue and Beastwars were due to spend 2020 touring Europe so here is a chance to see two world class riff worshippers on the same stage.
