Dinosaur Jr. Unveil New Album 'Sweep It Into Space'
I stumbled across a vintage '90s skate video soundtracked to Dinosaur Jr. online the other day and was surprised at how well that combo worked, with J Mascis' angsty lyrics and heroic guitar-wailing feeling like fuel for gravity-defying halfpipe tricks. The O.G. Dinosaur Jr. team of Mascis, Lou Barlow and Murph are back with their first new collection in five years Sweep It Into Space, co-produced in collaboration with Philadelphia icon Kurt Vile, who also plays twelve string guitar on the record. Sounds like Vile has lit a fire in the belly of the veteran US rock gods, as the grungy goodness of 'I Met the Stones' and 'Hide Another Round' recalls their roots in noisy hardcore punk, while Vile's presence is felt in country-toned lead single 'I Ran Away'. Barlow puts his own Sebadoh spin on things too, jumping in on lead vocals for a couple of tunes, but the end result is definitely Dinosaur Jr. at their most inimitable. Hit play on the stream below and scroll down to experience the new claymation clip for 'Take It Back' by Callum Scott-Dyson...
