Hiatus Kaiyote Drop Velvety Soul Single 'Red Room' + Video

Annabel Kean / Thursday 29th April, 2021 2:30PM

Dive into the velvety second single from Hiatus Kaiyote's third album Mood Valiant. 'Red Room' highlights vocalist Naomi "Nai Palm" Saalfield's knack for disguising her complex melodies in what the naked ear understands as super mellow, soul simplicity. The Grammy-nominated Melbourne group wrote the song during a 3am studio jam in Rio De Janeiro in 2019, with the lyrics inspired by the vocal booth's red lighting, reminding Saalfield of an old room of hers, "All the windows were red stained glass and whenever the sunset, my whole room would glow red for an hour until the sun dipped down. A magic moment in my everyday. It’s the celebration of the sanctuary of having a nest or a home". Watch the gorgeous clip for 'Red Room' below, which thanks a Bow Tie Designer amongst its nearly thirty other credits...

Hiatus Kaiyote's album 'Mood Valiant' is out June 25th via Brainfeeder Records / Ninja Tune.
