Premiere: Death And The Maiden Return With Single / Video 'Waratah'
We are very pleased to help kick off NZ Music Month in style with a first look at a new single and video from Ōtepoti's Death and the Maiden, the trio of Lucinda King, Hope Robertson (both of Bad Sav) and Danny Brady (Thought Creature). Named after the vivid crimson-flowered Australian shrub, the chilly tones of 'Waratah' feel like autumn rolling in, as King's poetic vocal reflections lead listeners through a crisp thicket of electronic percussion, shadowy synths and guitars which sound like they're threatening to explode into a storm, before slowly fading away. Directed by Martin Sagadin and starring King (who also handled costuming and conceptualisation ), the straight up gorgeous video for 'Waratah' showcases the eerie splendour of our Southern landscape, with many shots (filmed in various locations around Dunedin) looking like you could put a frame around them and hang them in an art gallery. 'Waratah' is a stunning return from the three-piece, heralding an upcoming new album (their third), recorded and produced by Tom Bell at Chicks Hotel — experience the video created with the support of NZ On Air below...
