The wonderful Mara TK (former Electric Wire Hustle frontman) has lifted the lid on his debut solo album Bad Meditation. Out now digitally, and on vinyl soon via Extra Soul Perception and Tom Scott's imprint Years Gone By Records, the collection flows from one intoxicating soul track to another. TK's silky vocals round out any hidden burrs in his sometimes heart-wrenching lyrics, drawing from grief and his childhood. As he explained, "Growing up poor, everything goes through our indigenous lens. Here in Aotearoa we have our own Gods, our own values, our own ways of speaking that are different to the colonial/capitalist culture".

Mara TK wrote and produced Bad Meditation independently, using "basically a whole studio worth of gear" that he bought and spent five years learning how to use, with the philosophy "music, like any other creative form doesn’t have to be perfect - the brush strokes don’t have to be exactly straight".
