Moana & The Tribe Share ‘Huakirangi’ Feat. Shellie Morris

Annabel Kean / Wednesday 7th July, 2021 12:14PM

The third single from Moana & The Tribe's forthcoming album ONO features lyrics performed in both te reo Māori and Gadigal, one of the many indigenous Australian languages collaborator Shellie Morris (Wardaman, Yanyuwa) draws from in her award-winning songwriting. In new track ‘Huakirangi’ the two powerhouse vocalists explore the relationship between night and day, the sun and the moon. Written with Scotty Morrison, Paddy Free and Morris, Moana Maniapoto found inspiration in the karakia Maui composed to slow the sun's path across the sky and shares ‘Huakirangi’ in time for Matariki this year. As with the three ONO singles released so far, Maniapoto will continue to share collaborations with indigenous artists from across the globe, the next being ‘Aio ana’ with Mari Boine of the Sámi native people of Norway, due out once Matariki sets later this month. Watch the epic surreal clip for ‘Huakirangi’ here...

‘Huakirangi’ is out now via major streaming services.
