Watch Planet Of The Dead's Video For 'Pilgrim'
Gearing up to raise hell at this weekend's Kulthu: Beer And Metal Fest at Valhalla, Te Whanganui-a-Tara's Planet Of The Dead have unleashed the infernal latest track from their forthcoming second studio album Pilgrims, which will be out digitally this Friday. Crushing bones into fine power with their ultra-heavy riff action, POTD's 'Pilgrim' draws inspiration from Kurt Vonnegut's 1969 literary tome Slaughterhouse-Five — released late last week along with a suitably cosmic and dread-fuelled video conjured into dark visual reality by Drain Hope. The band explained to Decibel how they incorporate their shared love for horror and sci-fi into their music...
“Our basic concept is heavy music played heavy, and we try to keep it simple... There are recurrent themes in our riffs which gives the album a sense of coherence, but we’ve experimented with some new sounds in the latest album which we feel results in a greater sense of dynamism. Lyrically, we dug deeper into our obsessions with classic sci-fi and horror. There is a distinctive and undeniable fan-fiction element to our work. We actively seek out cultural references, and weave them into our tapestries.”
