Multiple award-winning film soundtrack composer, co-leader of Queen Neptune and former frontman of Aotearoa funk-rock outfit Supergroove, Karl Steven has unveiled today Whakaari — a collection of instrumentals named after the Bay of Plenty's active volcano also known as White Island. A popular tourist attraction, Whakaari made headlines across the globe when it erupted in December 2019, killing twenty two people and injuring the remainder of the forty seven visitors to the island at the time. The new EP showcases four works created for filmmaker Irene Chapple's documentary The Eruption: Stories of Survival which can be viewed over on the Threenow site here, in which two survivors from the eruption tell their story. Immerse your ears in Steven's solemn and sensitively conveyed meditations on the island's alien-like landscape and the tragic events that unfolded below...

'Whakaari' is out now on Spotify.
