Diggy Dupé Samples Nesian Mystik On 'WEON' + Video

Annabel Kean / Friday 6th August, 2021 10:57AM

The night before Tāmaki hip hop wiz Diggy Dupé released his debut album That's Me, That's Team he laid down the demo for 'WEON', a track to kick off a night of celebrating wins and hard work. With the blessings of local icons Nesian Mystik, Dupé and collaborators Tamagotchi and SmokeyGotBeatz can at last share the brilliant new party-starter featuring a tasty sample of the Mystik's 2002 hit ‘It’s On’. Although Dupé says 'WEON' is simply "something to get your after work drinks started", the homage to Nesian Mystik tells a bigger story; "They paved the way by showing us that it’s perfectly fine to be yourself, and that was us too, a bunch of Polynesian kids from Grey Lynn who love rap".

The Connor Pritchard-directed visuals, made with support from NZ On Air, are loaded with references to the 'It's On' video, with a few shot for shot recreations in Auckland spots that haven't changed in almost two decades. Add some warmth and TGIF to your day with 'WEON', and keep an ear out for Dupé's work on The Panthers soundtrack with Troy Kingi and choicevaughan...

'WEON' is out now via major streaming services.
