Listen To Aro's New Single 'Tuna'
Finalists for the 2019 APRA Maioha Award, husband and wife duo Aro have gifted listeners a sunny, beat-driven new song with a shadowy heart, helping take some of the sting out of this week's lockdown. Sung in te reo Māori, 'Tuna' alludes the "Māori legend about the great ancestor of tuna (eels) who suggested things to get their way... and how eels tend to hide in dark places." The first single from their forthcoming He Wai EP, the team of Charles (Ngāpuhi, Te Rarawa, Ngāti Te Ata, Ngāti Mutunga) and Emily Looker are all set to travel throughout Aotearoa once more on their national release tour — performing in venues near bodies of water and perfectly timed to coincide with Te Wiki o te Reo Māori (Māori Language Week) this spring.
“I think we can all relate to a time where, somewhere in the shadow of the heart, we wanted to do something but we knew it wasn’t right. Sometimes we still end up doing it, and it can be really hard to forgive ourselves, or others”. — Aro
