Georgia Lines Unveils ‘Tōrere’ For Waiata Anthems Week

Annabel Kean / Friday 3rd September, 2021 2:40PM

Tauranga pop songwriter Georgia Lines has taken on the challenge of recreating her 2020 single 'My Love' in te reo Māori. Titled ‘Tōrere’, the Tauranga dream-popper transformed the track with help from language coach Hana Mereraiha (Ngāi Tahu, Tainui, Te Arawa, Taranaki) at Roundhead Studios, and ended up with a killer new version of her heart-punching break-up song. As with another Māori language release from today Kono 003, 'Tōrere’ is a part of Waiata Anthems Week 2021 (6 to 12 September), "A celebration of Te Reo Māori in popular New Zealand music". But the ‘Tōrere’ roll out doesn't stop there — Georgia Lines has shared a Māori Mermaid illustrated lyric video and a special behind the scenes clip from the recording sessions. Sing along and enjoy below...
