Running up until Sunday 12th September, Waiata Anthems Week is an industry-wide initiative celebrating "the best new waiata and a chance to honour the champions and pioneers of te reo Māori who paved the way for future generations, supporting the emergence of a truly bilingual musical landscape." Helping pave the way for Te Wiki o te Reo Māori / Māori Language Week 2021, last Friday saw a huge wave of Aotearoa artists releasing versions of their own classic songs in te reo Māori.

Fresh from the success of her breakout 2020 debut EP Always Growing, rising star Paige (Ngāti Maniapoto, Ngāti Tūwharetoa) unveiled a new te reo rendition of her hit 'Waves', the original of which has impressively racked up more than four million streams.
