Kings Drops 'Pohewatia' Feat. Theia - Waiata Anthems Week

Annabel Kean / Friday 10th September, 2021 12:33PM

As we ease into spring and Te Wiki o te Reo Māori / Māori Language Week inches closer, the deluge of Waiata Anthems Week contributions from Aotearoa songwriting greats have been brightening the UTR virtual office. The Waiata Anthems Week initiative was launched to celebrate "the best new waiata and a chance to honour the champions and pioneers of te reo Māori who paved the way for future generations, supporting the emergence of a truly bilingual musical landscape". The refreshed te reo tracks have been compiled onto the official Waiata Anthems playlist which you can find below.

The latest delightful Waiata Anthems offering comes from multitalented hip-hop mainstay Kings, whose brand new track 'Pohewatia', featuring Tāmaki powerhouse Theia, will have you feeling very TGIF indeed. Already this year Kings dropped his self-produced and hotly anticipated fourth album RAPLIST, and feature artist Theia has been making waves with Vayne collab single 'CREEP' and is set to perform at this year's Others Way Festival in November. Together, they've whipped up something beautiful on sunny pop song 'Pohewatia', written about "changing narratives around what it is to be brown" and wanting to "celebrate our triumphs too". Crank up the volume, 'Pohewatia' is a precious Waiata Anthems Week gem...
