Listen To Deep Water Creek's Debut Album 'News From The South'

Annabel Kean / Monday 1st November, 2021 1:33PM

Ōtautahi songwriter Matthew Smith lifts the lid on News From The South, his debut album under the Deep Water Creek moniker. Out now via the harbour-side folks at Lyttelton Records, the new collection arrives on the tail of Deep Water Creek's hometown album release show, which saw Smith, band, and support act Shaun Malloch sell out Christchurch's Grater Goods. The nine tracks on News From The South, including reflective lead single 'Water Today', traverse country, folk, and rock influences, with the artist's bold, unwavering voice tying each song together with pop-vocal clarity. Smith's songwriting is lush and thoughtfully layered, from the hooning, fuzzed-out guitar and haunting piano on 'I, You', to the playful, soul-tinted sounds of 'Child'. Have a moody / groovy day to the debut long-player from Smith and his Deep Water Creek band...
