Julien Dyne Shares New Album 'Modes'
Contestably one of the most perfectly timed local releases of 2021, acclaimed percussionist / production wiz Julien Dyne (Avantdale Bowling Club) unveils a new album generously stacked with sunny grooves and mind-zapping flourishes, just as summer gets underway in Aotearoa's new traffic light era. Earlier student radio faves 'Your Life' with Marlins Dreaming's Semisi Ma'i'ai and 'Be Real' featuring Ladi6 set listeners up for even more top tier collaborations on Modes. Heavy hitters Troy Kingi, Ché Fu, Mara TK, Joe Dukie (of Fat Freddy's Drop), LEON (of Ghost Wave) and even more contribute to the record, with Ma'i'ai delivering the goods over three soulful tracks. There's a dizzying array of sonic detail to explore in these elegantly composed tunes, all executed with a laser-like commitment to moving bodies on the dancefloor. Get amongst by hitting play on Dyne's fifth solo record below...
“The majority of this record was created during the first lockdown of 2020. I was fortunate enough to receive funding from Creative New Zealand, which enabled me to focus on this project while the world was shutting down. Lots of files were shared via the internet, which made for an interesting collaborative process – little parcels of sonic information which were then shaped and sculpted afterwards, yielding fresh results.” — Julien Dyne
'Modes' is out now on major streaming services via Soundway Records, vinyl expected February 2022.
