Tāmaki hip hop artist Deadforest declares he's "just a Southside soldier" in 'Don't' on his newly released debut album Plastic, produced entirely by Dera Meelan who also handled production duties on Church & AP's breakout album TEETH. A ten track deep dive into his steely-eyed, tight-as-a-drum lyrical flow and Meelan's post-industrial studio wizardry, Deadforest lets loose absolutely withering takedowns of rap wannabes and fakers on Plastic, while painting an unsentimental portrait of life for young Pacific Islanders against the shadow of nearly two years of on-again / off-again lockdowns in Aotearoa.
