Listen To Winter Casual's Self-Titled Album

Chris Cudby / Friday 17th December, 2021 1:50PM

Hailing from Aotearoa and currently calling Melbourne home, Winter Casual is the solo recording project of JN (aka Joseph Nunweek, co-founder of culture website The Pantograph Punch), who casually launched a jumbo-packed self-titled offering earlier this week via Bandcamp. Incorporating a wide variety of sonic strategies, from subdued soundscapey excursions (calling to mind at times the monastic sci-fi vision of KITES) to catchy guitar-fuzz epics, spooked electronics, folk / psych meanderings and beyond, the eleven track collection ponders pressing issues that orbited the artist during the hectic period of time that was July 2020 to December 2021. Winter Casual lays it all out in the indisputably gorgeous long player's liner notes, declaring all proceeds from downloads (aside from Bandcamp's cut) will be donated to People Against Prisons Aotearoa...

"A set of songs and noises recorded July 2020-December 2021 about being aimless in lockdown, detached cruelty, body dysmorphic disorder at the supermarket, having to see student politicians you studied with thrive, tree allergy stench season, and Dragon giving up prog rock in the mid 1970's and moving to Australia to make it big.

All proceeds excl. Bandcamp portion go to People Against Prisons Aotearoa (PAPA). I'm having to do this on an honour system because Bandcamp is tied into Paypal and this sorely cuts back the number of appropriate donation options. It would be great if this otherwise very good platform could review and divest."
