Continuing the trend of exciting new Aotearoa music awards kicked off late last year with December's inaugural SRN Awards, Independent Music New Zealand (IMNZ) have unveiled today a new award for music journalism. To be presented as part of the forthcoming Taite Music Prize ceremony at Tāmaki Makaurau's Q Theatre on 20th April, the first ever NZ On Air Outstanding Music Journalism Award will celebrate "a special individual who made a creative contribution and significant impact with coverage of Aotearoa music in 2021," coming with "a $2500 cash prize, thanks to official partner, NZ On Air." Finalists will be shortlisted by IMNZ board, chairperson Pippa Ryan-Kidd explained the aims of the prize...

“In addition to our current Awards, the introduction of the Outstanding Music Journalism award is in the spirit of Dylan Taite. We wish to congratulate those who give media space to New Zealand Music and wish to encourage new and young writers to take up the voice that some of our leading music journalists have worked so hard to give a platform to over the years.”

Nominations for this year's Taite Music Prize and the Auckland Live Best Independent Debut Award are now open. For details about eligibility and nomination forms head along to indies.co.nz — nominations close at 5pm on Tuesday 8th February 2022.
