Benny Salvador Drops Debut Album 'Family Fruit'

Benny Salvador Drops Debut Album 'Family Fruit'

Chris Cudby / Monday 7th March, 2022 12:56PM

There was a veritable flood of local releases accompanying last week's Bandcamp Friday initiative, including a standout eight track afternoon drop from Te Whanganui-a-Tara-based multi-instrumentalist and DJ Benny Salvador. A "condensation of lockdown jams recorded at home throughout 2020 & 2021," each track on Family Fruit is "lovingly named after some family favourite dishes. Holla if you need the recipes!" Translating into the sonic realm as finely honed, groove-riding excursions into instrumental jazz-funk, Loft-friendly spacey disco / soul and even Can-esque motorik action, this delectable rhythmic concoction sounds 100% primed for getting things cooking in the kitchen.

An all-star family affair, the artist's debut full length album features Uncle Riki Gooch (drums, Percussion, bass), Uncle Sam Lindsay (guitar), Uncle Lucien Johnson (saxophone), Uncle Will Ricketts (vibraphone), Salvador’s Dad on bass and was mastered by Uncle Cory Champion (aka Borrowed cs, whose BCS12001 vinyl 12" is available for preorder now). I'd certainly be keen on a vinyl edition if that ever emerges, this is the stuff right here — listen via Salvador's own Aunty Records imprint...
