Popstrangers Return With Single / Video 'Are Pigeons Doves?'

Aotearoa's Popstrangers make a welcome return with their first offical release since 2014 (2020's 'Tyrants' demo excluded), a single / video combo posing the ornithological riddle 'Are Pigeons Doves?' Launched via Australian imprint Rice Is Nice (who release music by Sarah Mary Chadwick and Donny Benét, among other notables) late last week amidst a huge wave of Bandcamp Friday releases, the new ballad from the London-based team of Joel Flyger, Adam Page and David Larson balances on a knife edge between beauty and menace, served with mood-setting visuals shot and directed by Page — looking (but not sounding) a bit like if David Lynch made a video for a late '80s shoegaze Madchester outfit.

"'Are Pigeons Doves?’ is about the conversation I had with a friend, where he told me Pigeons and Doves were from the same family of birds. We had a conversation about how Doves could be universally loved as symbols of peace and then Pigeons were treated like pests. It's an attempt at a lullaby based on the assumptions we make at first sight."

'Are Pigeons Doves?' is out now on major streaming services via Rice Is Nice.
