Te Tīmatanga – The Beginning Lineup Announced Celebrating Matariki 2022

Chris Cudby / Monday 30th May, 2022 2:00PM

The next step on from last year's jam-packed Te Hihiri - The Spark event, Whammy Bar and 1:12 Records have teamed up again to announce Te Tīmatanga – The Beginning, a celebration of Matariki featuring Māori musicians from Tāmaki Makaurau, Kirikiriroa and Ōtautahi on 24th June. A "coming together of friends, fans and whānau to celebrate and enjoy whakaaturanga mataora" (live performance) across two stages, the name Te Tīmatanga refers to Aotearoa's new and long-awaited official recognition of Matariki in 2022. Here's hoping this excellent initiative becomes an annual cultural event long into the future, marking a time of renewal, reflection, wānanga and celebration — check out the full lineup details below...

"The introduction of the Matariki national holiday in 2022 marks a new beginning for Māori and Pakeha communities in Aotearoa. Official recognition of Matariki imbeds Mātauranga Māori as a key aspect of our identity as a people."
