Going Global Music Summit 2022 + Artist Showcase Announced

C.C. / Friday 22nd July, 2022 8:01AM

With borders finally open again for international touring, Independent Music New Zealand (IMNZ) and the NZ Music Commission have announced the return of the Going Global Music Summit, happening over two days at Tāmaki Makaurau's Roundhead Studios in early September. Offering ambitious Aotearoa artists and industry workers "further education, inspiration and the chance to connect to the global music industry for those ready to take their next step on to the world stage," the keynote speaker for 2022's summit is multi-Grammy Award winning producer Che Pope, founder of music based lifestyle company Wrkshp Inc and Head of Upstream at Distrokid. As a producer, Pope has collaborated with such significant figures as Aretha Franklin, Whitney Houston, Carlos Santana, Destiny’s Child, Lauryn Hill, Dr. Dre, the Weeknd, Diddy and Kanye West, while outside of the studio his 25 year plus career has encompassed "creative output, A&R, and marketing across multiple roles." Further guest speakers for the regularly sold-out event will be revealed in the coming weeks.

In line with tradition, the annual specialised music industry conference will conclude with the Going Global Presents 2022 Artist Showcase event, happening across Whammy Bar, The Wine Cellar, Whammy Backroom on Karangahape Road. A launchpad for future Aotearoa superstars of all stripes, previous years have featured performances by The Beths, Aldous Harding, Tami Neilson, Tiny Ruins, Troy Kingi, Sachi, Alien Weaponry, Fazerdaze and Nadia Reid — artist applications are now open at indies.co.nz.

“Our aim with Going Global is to help our local artists that are already on their career path and ready to make the next step into international markets. It is the perfect next step after the Going Local sessions we run in the regions each year that focus on artists who are starting out and want to learn about working as an independent and how the local music industry can help them.” — Independent Music New Zealand (IMNZ) Chairperson, Pippa Ryan-Kidd

IMNZ is bringing to New Zealand international booking agents, synch licensors, international media, PR experts, artist managers with international experience and those working for the fast-moving live and digital music platforms.
