Troy Kingi Announces New Synth Pop Album 'The Year of the Ratbags...' + Release Show

Winner of the Best Folk Artist Tūī for his 2021 album Black Sea Golden Ladder, Troy Kingi (Te Arawa, Ngāpuhi, Te Whānau-ā-Apanui) thrills fans with a stylish new (wave) direction, announcing today the next long player in his 10 10 10 Series, (10 albums in 10 years in 10 genres) will be a keys-tastic celebration of '80s synth pop excess. Entitled The Year of the Ratbags And Their Musty Theme Songs and credited to Troy Kingi and the Promises, the genre-straddling artistic powerhouse has shared a very special announcement video for the forthcoming record, hosted by "renowned actor and author" Sebastian Bowel and brought to you by the team at Hongi Slicker Productions.

Drawing inspiration from "television theme songs and the superstars of the period such as Prince & Talking Heads, even the radio friendly sound of bands such as Tears for Fears, The Human League and Duran Duran," Kingi invites fans to embrace the spirit of his throwback masterpiece with a Release Show and ’80’s Party at Tāmaki Makaurau's The Powerstation on 14th October.
