Premiere: Watch Wiri Donna's Animated Video For 'Being Alone'

Ruling Aotearoa's student radio charts in 2022 with songs from her recently launched Being Alone EP, Wiri Donna aka Bianca Bailey today shares the icing on the cake, hyperreal digitally animated visuals for the title track. Made by creative directors Mili Ghosh and Sophie Forsyth, executive produced by Maeve O’Connell with graphic design by Nina Smith, we're stoked to provide a first look at Wiri Donna's video for 'Being Alone'. The Te Whanganui-a-Tara songwriter interacts with a post-physical virtual realm in the clip — "the perfect opportunity to test a non-binary rationale through a unique generative design process" — blending fantastical imagery with elements of everyday domestic life, created with support from NZ On Air.

"Wiri Donna's freeness is expressed within her own virtual landscape. Transportation by bubbles, empathy and connection by caricature, site by theme and time by feeling. The addition of physical artefacts, such as the contents of Wiri Donna's IRL room, provides a grounding attachment to the things we hold close and inherently express ourselves in the physical world. These objects and environments are abstracted in a way that allows viewers to engage with a non-binary lens of experiential space ambiguously.

Viewers can experience a world generated by emotive parameters within the music video. Wiri Donna's world suggests sanctum within alternate platforms of existence, a platform where a non-binary entity prevails through the design and construction of virtual world existence, providing a means to explore, experiment and express oneself freely."
