NO CIGAR Drop Debut Album 'Bienvenido'
Tāmaki Makaurau's NO CIGAR have unveiled their genre-straddling debut album Bienvenido (meaning 'welcome') just ahead of their biggest headline tour to date, taking them all across Aotearoa from late September to early November. Hugely popular on our gig circuit, the six piece prove their well honed versatility on the eleven song long player, confidently peeling off laidback summery grooves and upbeat rock licks in equal measure, recorded away from the big smoke in in Mangawhai with producer Connor Jaine (Mako Road). Fronted by singer / guitarist Willy Ferrier, NO CIGAR explained how the impulse to create Bienvenido arose from sleepy months of lockdown life in the super city — don't miss them bringing the party back to our happily unrestricted live music scene at the following dates...
“When the bars, clubs and even the borders shut their doors, we had to look inward for an escape. In a strange way, if not for the pandemic, the first album we released would look very different. That’s because amid all the uncertainty, with gigs, festivals and tours all being organised only to be cancelled time and time again, we made a call. We decided to not book anything and instead focus inwards on the music….We all decided to ditch the ghost town Auckland had become and escape to Mangawhai, NO CIGAR’S spiritual home."
