Chris Cudby / Wednesday 28th September, 2022 3:00PM

Beaming into Tāmaki Makaurau's The Tuning Fork this spring, Los Angeles stars of sophisticated neo-soul Moonchild will be celebrating the launch of their new album Starfruit at their first ever Aotearoa headline performance. Originally set to tour here in 2020 before the pandemic messed with everyone's plans, the multi-instrumental trio of Amber Navran, Andris Mattson and Max Bryk have collaborated and toured with the such key musical figures as Kamasi Washington, Stevie Wonder, The Internet and Jill Scott. They launched their fifth studio record Starfruit earlier this year via esteemed UK imprint Tru Thoughts, overflowing with masterfully smooth melodies and  jazz-inflected late nite grooves, featuring guest contributions from RnB royal Lalah Hathaway and MCs Rapsody and Ill Camille. Sure to get bodies moving with such breakout hits as 'The List' and 'Cure', don't miss Moonchild on 15th November...

Press release:

LA-based neo-soul trio MOONCHILD today announce New Zealand show for November this year as part of an extensive world tour in support of their latest album Starfruit.

After their debut Australasian dates were cancelled in June 2020 due to the pandemic, the Californian trio will finally bring their fusion of alternative R&B, jazz and neo-soul to Auckland’s Tuning Fork on November 15.

A combination of three multi-instrumentalists — Amber Navran, Andris Mattson and Max Bryk – Moonchild have collaborated with names such as Kamasi Washington, Stevie Wonder, The Internet and Jill Scott. Their ever-evolving fusion of alternative R&B and neo-soul has been compared to the likes of Tom Misch and Jordan Rakei, and the band received widespread acclaim after the release of their 2019 album Little Ghost and the resulting NPR Tiny Desk Session that has logged over 4 million views.

Moonchild’s latest record Starfruit boasts collaborations from Lalah Hathaway, Rapsody, Tank and The Bangas, Alex Isley, Ill Camille, Mumu Fresh, Chantae Cann and Josh Johnson. Alongside the extensive list of featured artists, the release sees Moonchild experimenting with new synths and sounds. While still rooted in their trademark tones, these textures and sound palettes elevate Starfruit to new and impressive Moonchild musical territory.

Don’t miss your chance to see the trio perform live in Auckland this November!
