Lorde and Flume To Headline Electric Avenue Festival 2023

Chris Cudby / Friday 30th September, 2022 8:00AM

Ōtautahi Christchurch welcomes summer festival season back in a big way with today's mega-stacked lineup for Electric Avenue 2023, bringing the party to Hagley Park on Saturday 25th February. The festival has gone absolutely all-out with the headliners for their eighth edition, including globally beloved Aotearoa pop icon Lorde, Australian electronic production wiz Flume, Baltimore heroes Future Islands, Pōneke dub innovators Fat Freddy’s Drop, soul / RnB superstar TEEKS, funk-rock legends Supergroove, festival faves L.A.B, Melbourne synth-pop duo Client Liaison, famed orchestral / EDM ensemble Synthony and that's just the tip of the iceberg.

There'll be nearly 50 acts performing over five stages to an expected crowd of over 30,000 attendees (including a new 10,000 capacity temporary indoor arena), with a yet to be announced drum & bass headliner still waiting in the wings (revealed in November). Cast your eyes on the full lineup below and keep those FOMO fears at bay by snapping up tickets fast...

“It’s great to be back with what is by far our strongest line-up to date, and a real privilege to be able to have artists of the calibre of Lorde and Flume on the program... We’re probably one of the country’s most musically diverse festivals – I think that’s been a big part of our appeal and it’s definitely something we work hard each year to curate.

We started out with 8,000 people at our first Electric Avenue in 2015 so it’s pretty special to be hosting 30,000 people dancing to 50 artists over 12 hours in the most amazing central city park that this country has. Quality music is quality music whether its soul, drum & bass, rock, techno or hip hop as far as we’re concerned, and we’ve never tied ourselves to a particular style or genre." — festival director Callam Mitchell

"We love coming down to Ōtautahi! This will be our third time playing Electric Ave and it's always a mean buzz!" — L.A.B. singer / guitarist Joel Shadbolt

Press release

Fresh from headlining at the likes of Coachella and Glastonbury, music heavyweights Lorde and Flume will entertain an expected crowd of over 30,000 people on 25 February in Christchurch’s Hagley Park.

Close to 50 artists will be performing across five stages including a new 10,000 capacity temporary indoor arena, in what will be the eighth Electric Avenue music festival.

Also named in the announcement are top Kiwi acts L.A.B, Fat Freddy’s Drop, Supergroove and Teeks, as well as a number of other international artists including Peking Duk & Future Islands.

The spectacular Synthony show will be making its debut festival appearance, and a UK drum & bass headlining artist will also be announced in November.

Electric Avenue is the only full festival appearance in New Zealand planned by Lorde and is part of her world tour promoting her Solar Power album released last year.

Flume whose real name is Harley Streten hasn’t performed in New Zealand since 2019 said he’s looking forward to returning to New Zealand to showcase his new album “it's been too long – I’m excited to come back with the new show!”

After being forced to cancel the event earlier this year festival promoters Team Event are excited with their expanded plans for next summer.
