Beach Bunny Announce Debut New Zealand Shows

Beach Bunny Announce Debut New Zealand Shows

Chris Cudby / Thursday 10th November, 2022 10:00AM

Famously acclaimed as "my fave new Chicago band" by none other than Bob Odenkirk (Better Call Saul, Breaking Bad), fast-rising stars of emotive guitar-pop Beach Bunny have announced their first ever Aotearoa headline shows, performing in Tāmaki Makaurau and Pōneke. The project of songwriter Lili Trifilio, Beach Bunny found viral fame when their song 'Prom Queen' (watch below) exploded on TikTok in late 2019. That online success has been transmuted into global tours and high profile festival appearances including Coachella, Primavera Sound and 2023's ridiculously stacked When We Were Young emo / punk / pop extravaganza. Trifilio and band will be here celebrating July's launch of second album Emotional Creature — don't miss them at San Fran and The Tuning Fork this coming March...

Press release:

I OH YOU and Frontier Touring are pleased to announce Chicago-based indie pop band Beach Bunny – singer-songwriter Lili Trifilio – will bring their self-assured songs down under for the very first time in March 2023, performing headline shows across Australia and New Zealand.

In 2022 Beach Bunny completed a 35 date North American and European tour and made their Coachella and Primavera Sound debuts – big live performances coming off the back of the band’s acclaimed second album, Emotional Creature, out now via Liberator Music/ Mom+Pop. Inspired by sci-fi and envisioning up new places to travel, dreaming up Y2K- esque pop sounds and galaxial imagery, the band’s latest album was produced by Sean O’Keefe (Fall Out Boy, Motion City Soundtrack). Led by Trifilio’s candid, charming songcraft, with its openhearted, vulnerable themes and progressive, hook-filled take on pop rock and pop punk, Emotional Creature further cements Beach Bunny and Trifilio’s well-earned reputation as a leading voice of their generation.

With their trademark guitar-pop, Beach Bunny have earned critical and commercial acclaim ever since they dropped 2018 EP Prom Queen, and its 2020 follow-up breakout debut album, Honeymoon. The latter contained smash hit single ‘Cloud 9’, certified gold in Australia and the US, and reaching #7 on the TikTok Sounds Chart with 2 million videos created using the song. Critics and fans were instantly drawn to the group’s magnetic live energy and unguarded ability to tackle the most sensitive matters of the heart, Trifilio’s skills profiled by The New York Times and Rolling Stone in their Best Of The Year nods. Collaborations with Tegan and Sara and MARINA followed, not to mention a well-documented fandom by actor Bob Odenkirk.
