Listen To Womb's New Album 'Dreaming Of The Future Again'

Pōneke dreamgaze outfit Womb and early-'00s Feilding pop-rockers Evermore have about two things in common: they’re both comprised of trios of siblings that write songs which sound tailor-made for the lofty acoustics of rustic rural churches (though in very different imagined contexts). That’s where any conceivable comparison ends. Though it's a country mile away from sounding like worship music, Womb’s sophomore album Dreaming of the Future Again is a work worthy of worship. Listeners are baptised in a lagoon of lush reverb, where harmonies fold into one another like the ripples from a pebble tossed into a rock pool. No note feels unaccounted for amongst the soundscapes of songs like ‘When I See You’, the intentional quality of Womb’s songcraft is like an audio rendering of a watercolour masterwork — blended tones, soft edges but not a single movement without purpose. The mournful moments of ‘The Dove’ evoke nostalgia — perhaps for a future once dreamed of but made now impossible by the happenstance of chance.

Cello Forrester (vocals, guitar, strings), Haz Forrester (synth, guitar), and Georgette Brown (drums) have spent the last two years writing and recording the songs which comprise Dreaming of the Future Again, out today via Flying Nun. With the help of friend and engineer Bevan Smith at Circle Blue Studios, they have refined and sculpted their compositions into an exemplary record of haunting beauty — hit play and catch them this month at the following dates...
