Listen To Michael Logie's 'FKD NIGHT' EP

Chris Cudby / Friday 11th November, 2022 3:19PM

Well known to Aotearoa music buffs for his F In Math project, and as bassist for both The Mint Chicks and Die! Die! Die!, Tāmaki Makaurau electronic artist Michael Logie shares a post-human mini-masterpiece given sonic shape with today's FKD NIGHT EP. An ever-mutating, moiré-effect melting pot of warped electronica, vocoder boogie-funk, prowling nite-grooves, haunting synthetic soul, and much more, FKD NIGHT's six tracks instantly engage then draw listeners deep into Logie's visionary sound world — expressed visually in brain-frying AI-animated clips for 'Don't Go Out' and 'MASK' (watch below). Logie explained how the EP evolved in part from his experiences working with longterm collaborator Kody Nielson (Silicon) on his 2018 Birthday Suite shows...

“It was a lot of fun trying to recreate those songs live so I decided to make a synth set-up myself, that I could perform my own music with... I slowly recorded the songs between 2018 and 2021 while I was building my synth set-up, I would buy a synth, record part of a song with it, then sell that synth to buy another, and repeat the process.

There is a folder on my computer with close to 1000 unfinished demos in it. This EP came out of that chaos.

Two of the songs have evolved from little ideas I jotted down while on tour with Die! Die! Die! in 2013. Other tracks were written when I was living in St Kevins Arcade, working in my windowless home studio, which shared a wall with and collected ambient noise from my neighbours over at The Wine Cellar."

'FKD NIGHT' is out now on major streaming services.
