Beginning their Sunset Swimming nationwide tour this week just as Aotearoa starts to warm up again, husband and wife songwriting duo Lauren and Matt Barus aka Terrible Sons share an uplifting percussive cocktail with new single / video 'Tomorrow Always Comes'. Recorded with drummer Jo McCullum (Nadia Reid, The Veils), producer / guitarist Tom Healy (Tiny Ruins, Marlon Williams) and bassist Jo Barus (The Dukes), the tune's ping-ponging grooves race around while the pair lyrically embrace the inevitability of change, elevated further by romantic horns and a sparkling melodic outro.

Directed by Lauren Barus with camera operator Kirk Pflaum and editor Loren Kett, and made with support from NZ On Air, the sliced 'n' diced visuals for 'Tomorrow Always Comes' reflect the song's somewhat over-caffeinated spirit, before eventually finding peaceful space to flow. Beginning their first ever tour together as Terrible Sons this week in Auckland, Hamilton and Leigh, the former core members of Christchurch's The Dukes unpacked their thoughts and feelings about 'Tomorrow Always Comes'...

“Our life inside a pinball machine, 2020-2021. Full of joy, thinking of Flying Nun’s Bressa Creeting Cake and Illinois-era Sufjan. This song went through three incarnations before we settled - it took a while to match the upbeat music with a lyric we wanted to sing about. It’s about inevitability; we’re learning that our life as we know it may not march on, but time does. Maybe there’s a joy in knowing we’re not the centre of everything." — Matt Barus

"We wanted it to make you feel this sense of speed of change, of rushing, sometimes chaotic, sometimes idiotic, and nonsensical, all of which feel like our response and observations of the world in this moment of time.” — Lauren Barus
