Listen To Goodnight My Darling's Self-Titled Debut Album
Sounding like the assured work of an artist with many releases under their belt already, Te Whanganui-a-Tara's Goodnight My Darling aka Maxine Macaulay has unveiled today her self-titled debut album, ahead of this week's launch events in Whanganui, Hamilton and Levin. Following her own songwriting muse through fuzzed-out shoegazey passages ('Until I Return'), lushly arranged dream-pop ('Too Young') and moments of folk-inflected luminousness ('Moving Away'), Macaulay's vocal powers absolutely shine on all nine tracks, summoning Weyes Blood-levels of majesty on sweeping ballad 'He Died In May'. Macaulay discussed the transformative energy that helped shape her consistently superb new record — don't miss Goodnight My Darling this month and next at the following dates...
“The album and the journey of making it has been about the evolution of self. It's about transforming energy in the moment into something tangible, such as song, poem, music, art.
It represents a collective experience, with the pandemic being at the forefront of my mind, but deeper than that, a snapshot of time and space. This relates directly to the themes in the songs but also applies to the making of the album. For this project I really reached out collaboratively, more than I have ever done artistically and this has elevated my work.” — Goodnight My Darling
