Rita Mae 'Night Drive' Single Release Auckland Show Announced

Rita Mae 'Night Drive' Single Release Auckland Show Announced

Chris Cudby / Monday 20th February, 2023 10:41AM

Launching her new single 'Night Drive' this coming Friday, Muriwai rising star Rita Mae (daughter of the late Jim Laing of The Jean Paul Sartre Experience and Lanky) has announced a celebratory soirée happening within the cosy confines of Tāmaki Makaurau's Whammy Backroom on March the 3rd. Following a productive 2022 which included trio of singles highlighting Mae's vocal powers 'Candy's House', 'Sunny Afternoon' (with skinnyandsoft) and 'Superfeeling', plus high profile appearances at The Others Way festival and RNV, the alt-pop artist's first release for 2023 explores “those awful in-between relationships, that deep down you know will never work but for some reason you hold on to it anyway”. We advise snapping up tickets for this limited capacity event pronto, starring Mae with band and special guest Molly Payton (performing solo)...

Press release:

Rita Mae is having a release show for her new single Night Drive. The latest lovesick anthem from the Muriwai artist drops 24 February and Rita will be celebrating a week later with a show at Whammy Back Room on Friday 3 March where she will be joined by her band and supported by Molly Payton playing a solo set.

Since turning heads with the release of Candy’s House last year and her skinnyandsoft collab Sunny Afternoon, Rita Mae has played The Others Way, RNV and recently featured on LiveNation’s Ones To Watch and BFM’s Fancy New Band with her single Superfeeling.

The daughter of local legend, the late Jim Laing (The Jean Paul Sartre Experience, Lanky), the 24-year-old had a crack at a career in neuroscience before acknowledging a relentless desire for escapism could be satiated by simply surrendering to it – and letting her insides spill out through songwriting and performance.
