Waving the flag for Memphis rap since well before the gritty genre's widespread resurgence, southern hip hop trailblazer Xavier Wulf has announced two Aotearoa headline dates — performing at Tāmaki Makaurau's The Studio on 21st April and Pōneke's San Fran on 23rd April. He'll be joined by fellow Seshollowaterboyz collective member Eddy Baker for both local shows, bringing the party following the late '22 launch of Wulf's acclaimed new album Blood Shore Season 3. Both former affiliates of the hugely influential Raider Klan (whose expansive membership has included SpaceGhostPurrp and Denzel Curry), get amongst and catch both underground rap figureheads at the following dates — brought to you by the WavyLand crew...

Press release:

WavyLand proudly presents Xavier Wulf return to Australian & New Zealand shores this April, taking Memphis further south than imaginable. Xavier carries the sound of Southern hip-hop on his back, trunk-rattling beats and rhythmic, hypnotising raps at his music’s core. A champion of the Memphis sound well before its resurgence in modern hip-hop, Xavier is an artist driven by impulse rather than what’s fashionable, marching to the beat of his own drum.

A student of punk rock and hardcore as much as hip-hop, Xavier Wulf’s music explores a plethora of avenues. Blood Shore Season 3, the third instalment in the longrunning Blood Shore Season series, shows off a more melodic approach for Xavier without compromising on the energy where he finds himself at his strongest. His approach to music is indicative of his approach to his other major hobby, cars: a conscious practice, balancing engineering and skill as he speeds through the lane he’s carved. Xavier didn’t carve it all alone though, an original member of the historic Raider Klan and now SESHOLLOWATERBOYZ, alongside Bones, Chris Travis, and of course Eddy Baker.

Eddy Baker will join Xavier Wulf on this run, exemplifying the underground scenes he came up in as he dives into sounds from phonk to Texas horrorcore. A clear fan of all forms of hip-hop, Baker now explores his Californian roots as he develops timeless G-funk and trap anthems, his music consistently at the intersection of genre, geography and time.

His debut tour of the region almost four years ago to the day, Xavier Wulf’s live experience is one characterised by raw energy. Xavier’s genuine appreciation for his fans manifests into a palpable mutual respect between artist and audience: don’t miss the rare chance to experience a real underground king this year.
