Award-winning Aotearoa film composer and sonic synthesist, Karl Sölve Steven (Queen Neptune, The Drab Doo-Riffs, Supergroove) has announced a new collection re-envisioning tunes from his superb 2022 debut solo album All of Human Emotion on Microfiche. Bundling together remixes created by a broad spectrum of local electronic trailblazers — Stef Animal, Liam K. Swiggs, Sonya Waters, Proteins Of Magic, Dream Chambers, Grecco Romank (on tour this autumn) and Gayblade (the dungeon synth project of Amamelia and Baby Zionov) — the accurately entitled All Of Human Emotion On Microfiche (The Remixes) will be out on 6th July via the champs at Sunreturn.

Lead single 'Acoma (Phase I) (Stef Animal Eithne Ní Bhraonáin 1986 Remix)' sees the Ōtepoti-based Stef Animal reworking the gently pulsing original as a new agey dreamscape, purportedly inspired by Enya's soundtrack for the 1986 BBC documentary series The Celts — ideal for browsing around the pewter dragons and dream catchers at your local suburban crystals store. Word on the street is there'll be a launch event to look forward to for the Pārāwai (Thames) based artist's new long player, hit play and explore the full tracklist...

"The track immediately reminded me of Enya's first couple of albums - especially her debut soundtrack for the 1986 BBC documentary series 'The Celts', which is full of these expansive, adventurous musical themes. I decided to try to attempt a vague Enya-fication of the track using similar synths and sounds from that period of her career. So there's big warm Roland Juno string sounds (and some sparkly Juno arpeggios), abstract rhythmic background vocal stuff, sampled percussion and that lovely Yamaha DX7 bell sound.

I'm not sure I completely nailed the idea I had in my head, but it's close enough to be fun. When I'm making tracks I don't usually start with a conceptual idea like this, I'm more of a 'fuck around and find out' kind of producer."

'Acoma (Phase I) (Stef Animal Eithne Ní Bhraonáin 1986 Remix)' is out today on major streaming services.
