Premiere: Listen To Bad Taste's New Single ‘Slow Down’

Samantha Cheong / Thursday 6th April, 2023 10:07AM

The hip hop super-duo of Whanganui-based producer / turntable king Alphabethead and Pōneke rapper Young Gho$t aka Bad Taste kick off our Easter weekend with new single ‘Slow Down’ which we're proud to premiere here — an appetiser from their eagerly awaited sophomore album Bad Taste II. The team chill it out on their new track with some heavy beats, catchy melodic riffs, plus cool it with some gumball-y and ghostly visual lyrics (and even a cheeky Ferris Bueller sample?). Following epic recent scratch-fuelled throwdowns at Newtown Festival and Valhalla, Bad Taste will continue full steam ahead with an Easter Saturday single release show at capital's Rogue and Vagabond alongside wordsmith Chris CK. Don't miss their musical wizardry this holiday weekend and smash play on ‘Slow Down’ below — officially out on all streaming platforms this Friday...

"We wrote "Slow Down" as an homage to old Western music, almost as a reminder to ourselves when we were trying to do too much. It's one of our favourite songs from the album because it has such a unique feel. Whenever we've played it live its been fun because people don't really know how to react to being told to slow down, as they're so used to being told to speed up. The bars just came really naturally as soon as I heard the beat, and David's scratch solo was another one off moment, drawing inspiration from a Mixmaster Mike solo. Its a definite change of pace from some of our other music and especially a lot of hip hop thats out there, so we're excited to see how people recieve it!" — Young Gho$t
