An electronic innovator whose communal vision extends beyond clubland, Korean-American producer, DJ and vocalist Yaeji has today unveiled her first official long player, following a straight up sizzling run of singles, EP releases, and 2020's mixtape WHAT WE DREW 우리가 그려왔던. Embracing personal complexity and evolution on her long-awaited debut album, With A Hammer could be considered the culmination of a five year journey for Yaeji since the breakout global success of 'Raingurl' — a politically turbulent time during which the artist found herself operating within liminal zones both sonic and sociogeographic. Conceived between New York and Seoul during the early pandemic years, Yaeji overcomes inertia-sapping feelings of sadness and moves forward with thunderous intent to "smash the rigid rules, expectations, and barriers that prevented her from speaking her fullest truth" on the 13 track collection — intoning "Time to wake up from my dream / Wake up from our freedom dreams" above clipped pumping rhythms on the impassioned title track.

Featuring contributions from K Wata, Enayet, Loraine James and Baltimore’s Nourished by Time, With A Hammer is a fractal-like aural tapestry that feels urgently present or even of the future, yet gesturing back to the artist's formative love for Korean indie rock, electronica, and ‘90s / early '00s pop. Hit play below, watch Yaeji's heartwarming self-directed video for 'Done (Let's Get It)' co-starring her grandpa, new clip 'Passed Me By' plus the hammer-slinging 'For Granted', order your own copy of the album HERE, and pray for local shows...

'With A Hammer' is out today via XL Recordings — orders available HERE.
