Juliet McLean 'Darker Nights' North Island Shows Announced
Taranaki songwriter Juliet McLean is embarking on a four date Darker Nights Tour, joined by special guest Ben King (Grand Rapids, Goldenhorse) across Te Ika-a-Māui in June. Honing her jazz / folk-infused sound from 2016's debut EP The Dance onwards, the multi-instrumentalist went on to release her Unlash The Boats album in 2019, launching the stately yet fuzzy-edged six track Amaze Me EP last September — featuring King on production duties, with Greg Johnson on trumpet and Tom Broome on drums. Don’t miss both artists collaboratively evoking a sense of ‘magical realism’ on tour at the following dates…
“I'm excited to be able to share my songs in a live setting with Ben as it was such a pleasure working with him in the studio as the producer on my latest recordings." — Juliet McLean

Press release:
Enjoy the combination of McLean’s keyboards, King's guitar and two unique voices for an atmosphere of “magical realism”, a term Juliet coined to describe the atmosphere she aspires to create with her live shows.
‘Her body of work is mature, thoughtful and subtle - songs threaded with intriguing jazz harmony which she performs on keyboards and vocals. She is able to hold the stage and draw an audience in.’ - Charlotte Yates
Singer-songwriter Juliet McLean was raised and still lives in Taranaki under the steady presence of Te Maunga O Taranaki beside the ever-changing west coast sea- a perfect allegory for this continually evolving, talented artist.
A gifted storyteller, her song’s poetic themes straddle the bittersweet paradox of human experience in love, life and family.
After the release of her debut EP ‘The Dance’ in 2015 and LP ‘Unlash the Boats’ in 2019- under the moniker, ‘O Juliet’- her focus turned away from the work of studio production back to the craft of songwriting and solo performance.
Her latest 6 track EP ‘Amaze Me’ is a reflection of this. Produced by Ben King in his Auckland studio, the EP features King’s multi-instrumentalist talents, drummer Tom Broome and seasoned songwriter Greg Johnson on trumpet.
Juliet is a tutor at Songwriting School NZ, teaches performance keyboard and singing in high schools, works in event production and is currently recording material for her second full length album.
