The Circling Sun Announce 'Spirits' Auckland Album Release Show

Aotearoa all-star jazz collective The Circling Sun have announced a very special event marking the release of their new album Spirits, illuminating the interiors of Ponsonby's historic Auckland Unitarian Church with their interstellar interplay on 8th July. Showcasing the instrumental mega-talents of Julien Dyne, J.Y. Lee, Guy Harrison, Cam Allen, Matt Hunter (aka Kenny Sterling) and more, The Circling Sun will be joined for the night by The Love Affinity Choir, a seven piece vocal group conducted by Hunter. Aucklands jazz scene has seen a wild and wonderful revival of late, but one band in particular has been leading the cosmic charge, The Circling Sun.

The Circling Sun is an ever-mutating collective of Tāmakai Makaurau’s absolute finest, including Julien Dyne, JY Lee, Guy Harrison, Cam Allen, Matt Hunter, and more. Known for their world class, psychedelic and intense, good times live sets, the team have been working away in secret to boil down their essence onto one stonking LP.

Championed by Gilles Peterson, and out on the incredible Soundway Records label, Spirits is a contemplative masterclass in spiritual space jazz, inspired by the likes of Sun Ra, Pharoah Sanders and Alice Coltrane, all while delving headfirst into the future of music itself.

Witness the band in all their glory for one spectacular and very special show at the hallowed hall of Ponsonbys Unitarian Church. Joining the band on-stage will be an all-star 7-piece vocal group conducted by Matt Hunter - The Love Affinity Choir.
