Hailing from Albany, New York, Drug Church first arose in 2011 as a side project for singer Patrick Kindlon of Self Defense Family, but are now very much their own sonically untamed, post-hardcore / punk beast. The collective of Kindlon, Nick Cogan, Cory Galusha, Chris Villeneuve and Patrick Wynne launched their fourth studio album Hygiene last year to high praise from Kerrang! and Pitchfork, and have just announced their debut Aotearoa headline date, bringing their fuzzed-out fury to Tāmaki Makaurau's Whammy Bar on 12th August. Famously electrifying live, as evident in the video for 'World Impact' below, best take action immediately to secure your spot in the pit for Drug Church — brought to you by Chicks That Scream...

Press release:

Chicks That Scream and Drug Church are stoked to announce the US hardcore punk band's debut New Zealand show at Whammy Bar Auckland this August.

For over 10 years Drug Church have been staunchly creating their own singular path in making distinctly outsider music that’s somehow at once welcoming and instantly satisfying.

Lead by vocalist Patrick Kindlon (who also fronts Self Defence Family), Drug Church have earned a cult following with songs that revel in sonic contradictions, seamlessly combining crushing aggression with bulletproof hooks, while the lyrics unflinchingly explore life’s darkness and discomfort with sardonic wit - and without judgement.

The band’s most recent record, Hygiene (2022), delivered their boldest set of songs to date to widespread acclaim. Kerrang gave the album four stars saying: “Listening to Hygiene might just be one of the most satisfying things you can do in less than half an hour,”. Forbes declared it a “modern hardcore delight”, while Pitchfork compared the album to fellow hardcore luminaries Turnstile.
