Premiere: The Situations Share Single / Video 'No Plan No Pack'
Armed with a seemingly bottomless bag of mega-catchy hooks, The Situations have been rattling off timeless garage-pop tunes from their home base in Papakura since before many local punters have been going to gigs. This wintery morn we're proud to premiere their latest single 'No Plan No Pack', the second waiata revealed from the trio's forthcoming new album (as yet untitled) set to launch in early 2024. They've reconnected with local production legend Bob Frisbee for their fourth studio long player, following Situations Get the Basics (2007), Forever Scene Changes (2015) and The Day After the Night Before (2018).
A rambunctious ode to the importance of whānau, no matter what madness life throws in your direction, The Situations sound ready to spring into action at the drop of a hat on 'No Plan No Pack', featuring guest Joe Kaptein on Farfisa VIP400 organ. Launched with an absolutely ripper DIY lyric video to match — drawn by the three band members' tamariki: Sophia, Rachel, Vinnie and Levon — don't miss the team of Samuel Kett (Pepi), Stuart Kett (Tech) and Brad (PCY) Walkington with musical buds galore at Ōtautahi's Space Academy this Friday and Tāmaki Makaurau's Cupid Bar on 7th July, the latter show featuring an extremely rare performance by Teen Wolf...
"This waiata is a reflection of what goes on in my brain, hoping I’m not the only one who contemplates such things. Specifically, No Plan No Pack came from the pāpā side of my brain. It’s less of a story and more a collection of thoughts such as; taking care of my whānau during a zombie apocalypse, buying into the wellbeing thing but recognising that sometimes not giving a shit about wellbeing is great for our health, with a final thought that taha whānau is probably the most important thing, and I'll throw everything in for that at the end of the day” — Samuel Kett
