Cosmic Psychos Returning To New Zealand In November w/ Dick Move + Grown Downz

C.C. / C.L. / Tuesday 27th June, 2023 2:43PM

Australia's legendary Cosmic Psychos exploded out of Spring Plains, Victoria all the way back in 1982 and they're still charging hard today, announcing a four date tour of Aotearoa's North Island with punk noiseniks Dick Move and Grown Downz. Pioneers of their own booze-loving, psyched-out take on raucous punk-pub rock, Cosmic Psychos are clear inspirations for both the Seattle grunge movement of the late '80s, and such closer to home sensations as The Chats. Stars of 2013's documentary BLOKES YOU CAN TRUST, Cosmic Psychos fame has surged even further in recent years via such unstoppable anthems as 'Nice day to go to the pub' and 'Fuckwit City'. Still fronted by singer / bassist Ross Knight, with Dean Muller and John "Mad Macka" McKeering, these will be the first local Cosmic Psychos gigs since before the launch of their 2021 album Mountain of Piss (their eleventh studio opus), and are thus unmissable. Get amongst at the following dates in Tāmaki Makaurau, Pōneke, Raglan and Tauranga...

Press release:

Few bands in the world are as relevant today as they were 4 decades ago but the Cosmic Psychos are one of these rarefied acts. Having formed in 1982 in the little know town of Spring Plains, Victoria, they somehow defied the odds of isolated rural obscurity to take (almost) legendary status as one of Australia's most influential and infamous punk bands.

With 10 albums under their belts and super fans including Eddie Vedder, Kurt Cobain, Mudhoney, L7, The Melvins, Prodigy, and many more they have the distinct honour of not only influencing the early 90’s Grunge/Alternative sound but the current Australian music scene with present-day punks like Amyl and the Sniffers, The Chats, Dune Rats sampling and styling aspects of the Psychos sound.

With their raucous and demented Ramones covering Motorhead rock n’ roll sound and subject matter spanning the likes of dead Kangaroos, drinking too much and the resulting hangovers, life on the farm, spending a really nice day at the pub, ripping and digging through the bush and cities full of undesirables - The Psychos greatest strength is perhaps their ability to relate to the every-man/woman with their simplified take on life and music (well maybe not Whip Me).

This connection developed through the honesty of their music is what has helped the Cosmic Psychos to enter one of their most popular periods as a band. Winning new fans through the 2013 documentary ‘Blokes You Can Trust’, the Psychos have and continue to travel Australia and the world (most recently opening for Guns N’ Roses). Now in November of 2023, they bring their 40-year back catalogue to New Zealand for 4 headline shows across the North Island. Make sure to catch them in between sampling local beers and checking out Farmlands stores and tractor dealerships.
