C.R. Avery Announces Debut New Zealand Tour
Get ready for Canadian poet / musician C.R. Avery’s bohemian flow of Chicago bluesy hip hop, spoken word, beatbox and song at his first ever Aotearoa tour Fightin’ Words and a Girl Named Mercy from August 3rd. Inspired as a child by Bob Dylan and his father’s country collection, Ontarian Avery is an international spoken word poet drawn to “story-based music” and known for his harmonica and piano playing. He’s graced stages with Tom Waits, Ani DiFranco, Utah Phillips and Sage Francis and also just seems like an intriguing guy to hear from (as he smokes a cigar during his interview with Hawkes Bay Radio) and a captivating performer with extensive and sincere range. Celebrating his new album, the official motion picture soundtrack for his self-directed 2022 film The Bar Without a Neon Sign, Avery will be joined on tour by local musicians and poets such as Ali Jacs, Ronna Funtelar, Miriam Barr, Ben Brown, Shane Hollands and Ben Stokes. Get brought to the edge of your seat by word and wonder next month — brought to you by the team at 07:17 Records…
