95bFM Announce bRave Auckland Dance Party

Chris Cudby / Friday 28th July, 2023 8:43AM

Treasured jewel of Tāmaki Makaurau's radio airwaves, 95bFM are banging the drum in a big way for your support. It's time to pull finger and help out the indisputably iconic student station, the tentpole of Aotearoa's alternative & underground music community for the past five decades (!), which you can do by dropping some coin at their highly publicised Record Fair on 19th August and / or by heading along to the just-announced 95bFM bRave. In the grand tradition of 95bFM's turn of the millennium OONST parties, the hottest of local tune spinners "from across six collectives and labels" will be dishing up an epic selection of dancefloor burning tracks "from the hardest jungle to the weirdest hyperpop" in the central city's The Mothership on 25th August. Dig out your flashiest rave pants (the ones with the velcro on them) but leave your whistles at home and note: "whilst we can’t promise no psytrance will be involved, we can promise it will be a hell of a party stacked with face melting tunes". Presales are available for bCard holders until next Friday (check your emails for the code) and general public tickets are available from Friday 4th August, which is also when the lineup details will be revealed to all...

Friday 25th August - The Mothership, Auckland

Pre-sales are available to bCard holders until next Friday, so check your emails for the code!
General admission sales are available via UTR from Friday 4th August

While we wait for next week's lineup drop, here's one of my personal favourite rave classics 'Everything Starts With An 'E'' by E-Zee Possee & MC Kinky...

Press release:

The 95bFM return to the rave is long overdue. For too long we have been pushing our premiere DJ talent to the end of band-gigs, and ignoring our listeners’ calls for more breakbeats and donk. Well, no more! The institution that was OONST (last held in 2003) has been revived for the next generation of bFM ravers with a lineup that reflects the emerging dance music scenes across this city. We have selected the best DJs from across six collectives and labels, who will play anything from the hardest jungle to the weirdest hyperpop.

bFM’s got a long history of chucking a b in front of everything it does. When we were brainstorming a name for this gig (we promise no chatGPT was involved), b - Rave came out on top. Calling a rave ‘bRave’ makes this seem a bit like ‘90s bush doof in Golden Bay, and whilst we can’t promise no psytrance will be involved, we can promise it will be a hell of a party stacked with face melting tunes.
