Watch Amiria Grenell's Video For New Single 'Romeo'
2011 Best Folk Album Tūī Award winner Amiria Grenell (The Swan Sisters, Fly My Pretties, Coyote) shares her novel single ‘Romeo’ and its paradisiacal video from her approaching fourth studio album. The Ōtautahi songwriter's romantic guitar and harmonies balloon with this 1950s doo-wop daydream about the impatience for love and the figure of such affection — recorded and mixed by Ryan Fisherman, who also drummed for the track with bassist Chris Wethey, guitarist Simon Gregory and keyboardist Tom Harris.
Directed by Martin Sagadin and made with the support of NZ On Air, the accompanying video invites us into a floral filmic Eden of family, friends, dogs and fruit, despite the longing, tunnel-visioned pleas of the chorus for a singular type of love. The rich kaleidoscope of flowers and people leaves us with a healing vibrance amongst the swinging spin of the song—”a nod to the old-fashioned romantic idea of meeting someone by chance.” Grenell begins a single release tour with folkster buds Saint Martins right this week, so step into Grenell’s garden amongst the occasional humdrum of our daily lives as soon as you can…
“We wanted to express how love is brought into our lives in different ways, such as collecting flowers from friends' and loved ones’ gardens; seeing the love they had put into their homes and into their families; their inspiration of what love and family is. It was beautiful to witness.”
