The new collaborative project of Ōtautahi electronic producer James Barrett (Keepsakes) and Henry Nicol (DOG Power, Loghorn Breed), CUT 989 fuse pitch-dark industrial club textures with mutated post-punk power on their debut Opinions EP. Sounding appropriately scorched and scathing, the four track collection's craggy, crawling atmospheres echo the post-earthquake wreckage still pointedly strewn amidst the garden city's overwhelmingly bland rebuild — radiating sombre energy like a glowering hoodrat.
