Beastwars Cover 'High & Lonely' By Nadia Reid
Stars of the latest episode of our new comics music journalism series with cartoonist Daniel Vernon, Pōneke metal mavericks Beastwars grace our Friday with a mammoth-scale reimagining of Port Chalmers songwriting icon Nadia Reid's song ‘High & Lonely’, from her acclaimed 2020 album Out of My Province. The third single from Beastwars' forthcoming album of Aotearoa covers Tyranny Of Distance, the four-piece amplify the original ballad's darkly romantic lyrical imagery with their signature spine-tingling riff energy, as gravelly-voiced singer Matt Hyde sounds completely possessed by passion. Recorded with James Goldsmith, Beastwars will soon be touring their fourth studio opus nationwide from mid-October onwards — don't miss them...
"This is such a haunting powerhouse of song from one of Aotearoa’s finest, it takes a knife and slices through the loneliness in the room. Screams at desire and the pointlessness of love if you are not in the presence of each other. Come to the carnival, it screams, a carnival of downfall and desire. That only makes sense when someone is in too deep" — Matt Hyde
